Solo racers are a little bit crazy, but we love them anyway! Each solo competitor will race the full 10 hours in its entirety, working to complete as many laps as possible within that timeframe. Solos are given the option of paddling kayaks rather than canoes, and will be offered preferred space in the transition zone.
The tag team format is open only to teams of two. This division allows team members to race each lap individually rather than in pairs (as with all other team formats) and therefore enables each team member to take a break between laps. Tag teams are offered the option of paddling kayaks rather than canoes if they choose.
All teams of 2, 3, 4 and 6 (other than tag teams) complete each lap in pairs. This means that two members of each team attempt each lap together before tagging off with the next pair at the transition zone. These two team members MUST remain together at all times for the duration of the lap – Race Staff will be manning at least one checkpoint on the course to ensure that team members are racing together.
There are no restrictions on the make-up of each pair, or on how many laps any one racer may complete, other than there can only be two members of each team on the course at any given time. Teams must also complete the paddling section in pairs, and may paddle in canoes only.
Teams of 2
The regular team of 2 category (ie. teams of 2 not competing as a tag team) race essentially the same as solos, in that the two team members are completing each lap together for the full duration of the race.
Teams of 3
Teams of three race similar to regular teams of two, but have an additional pair of fresh legs to switch off on each lap. There are no restrictions on the make-up of each pair, or on how many laps any one racer may complete.
Teams of 4
Teams of four essentially have two complete “pairings”, but may switch up team members on each lap as they choose. There are no restrictions on the make-up of each pair, or on how many laps any one racer may complete.
Teams of 6
Teams of six essentially have three complete “pairings”, but may switch up team members on each lap as they choose. There are no restrictions on the make-up of each pair, or on how many laps any one racer may complete.
