General Notes:
  • For 2008, the Trek Elite has been completely re-tooled into a single-day, fully-supported 8-hour race format. Support crews will not be needed this year.
  • The goal of each team will be to reach as many of the course checkpoints as they can within an eight-hour time limit, accumulating points as they move through the racecourse which, combined with their finish time, will determine their overall ranking.
  • The racecourse will be made up of both marked and unmarked sections. Racers will have to reach each of the mandatory checkpoints which create the framework of the course, but will have the option of attempting others if they choose.
  • This year's race will be using SPORTident technology for official timing. Each team will be issued a timing chip which is to be carried throughout the race and activated at each of the checkpoints they pass through.
  • Teams may paddle in canoes only. Solos may paddle any form of non-motorized floatworthy craft they choose.
  • Information on race routes and the order in which you will be completing each of the race disciplines will be provided on Race Day only.
  • Open to solo racers and teams of 2 or 4. Teams competing in the Saab Salomon Mountain-X Race Canadian Qualifier may race as teams of 3.
  • For more information on the MXR Qualifier, visit www.mxrcanada.ca
  • Racers compete only against others in their chosen race division. Awards will be presented for each category:

Race Rules:
  • The fundamental rule of STORM the Trent is that team members be within visible sight of each other at all times. The penalty for breaking this rule will be disqualification.
  • Checkpoints and race disciplines must be completed in the order they are assigned (unless otherwise specified).
  • All racers must race with a list of mandatory team and individual gear requirements. Time penalties will be applied if a team or solo racer is found to be without a mandatory gear item.
  • Racers must wear their bike helmets at all times while travelling by bike, and their PFD's at all times during water travel. Racers found not wearing their required gear will be disqualified.
  • Teams may paddle canoes only, whereas solo racers may paddle in kayaks. Kayak paddles may be used in canoes.
  • While teams will be given the option of attempting as many or as little of the point-value checkpoints as they choose, the core framework of the race will be structured by a series of mandatory checkpoints, which must be completed in the order they are assigned.
  • Each team or solo racer must check in at each of the mandatory checkpoints. Failure to do so will result in an automatic “NOR” ranking (not officially ranked).
  • Each team or solo racer is solely responsible for ensuring that they have been checked through by checkpoint staff. Incomplete entries at any of the mandatory checkpoints will result in an automatic “NOR” ranking.
  • For safety and/or logistics reasons, certain areas of the racecourse will be declared “out-of-bounds”. Any team or solo racer found in these areas will be immediately disqualified.
Other Rules:
  • Each team must have a team name included with their registration. STORM Racing reserves the right to refuse entry to any team that does not provide a team name.
  • Registration forms submitted without the requested racer information completed in full will not be processed.
  • Registrations are considered incomplete until full payment is received.
  • Members of a team may be changed, but only if notification is given prior to Race Day.
  • All racers must sign a race waiver on Race Day. Any participants who are under 18 years of age must have a parent or guardian present when signing these waivers.
  • Racers under 16 years of age must be on a team that includes at least one adult.
How It Works:
  • A confirmation of each team registration will be sent via email. Be sure to contact us if you have not received confirmation within 10 days of submitting your registration form.
  • The complete racer information package can be viewed by clicking here. This document contains all of the details on the host site location, directions, Race Day itinerary, accommodations, rentals, and racecourse notes.
What You Need:

  • Please note that water is not provided on the racecourse.
