General Race Details - “Hike” and “Trek” Events
- STORM the Trent is open to solo racers and teams of 2 or 4 only.
- Teams complete the paddling section(s) in canoes only – solos may paddle in kayaks.
- Teams must complete each of the race legs as a team. (i.e. not relay-style)
- Information on race routes and the order in which you will be completing each of the race disciplines will be provided on Race Day only.
- Each racecourse consists of a series of “checkpoints” through which the teams must pass en route to the Finish Line. Each team is issued a set of colour maps and a list of written instructions indicating the locations of the checkpoints.
- The core framework of each racecourse is marked, but teams will have the opportunity to attempt additional unmarked checkpoints if they choose.
- The goal of each team will be to reach as many of the course checkpoints as they can within a 4-hour or 6-hour time limit (4 for Hike, 6 for Trek), accumulating points at each, which, combined with their finish time, will determine their overall ranking.
- This year's race will be using SPORTident technology for official timing. Each team will be issued a timing chip which is to be carried throughout the race and activated at each of the checkpoints they pass through.
- All teams/solo racers are responsible for carrying a list of mandatory gear items throughout the race (see “What You Need”).
- Racers in each of the “Hike” and “Trek” events compete only against others in their chosen race division. Awards will be presented for each category:

- The fundamental rule of STORM the Trent is that team members be within visible sight of each other at all times. The penalty for breaking this rule will be disqualification.
- Checkpoints and race disciplines must be completed in the order they are assigned (unless otherwise specified).
- All racers must race with a list of mandatory team and individual gear requirements. Time penalties will be applied if a team or solo racer is found to be without a mandatory gear item.
- Racers must wear their bike helmets at all times while travelling by bike, and their PFD's at all times during water travel. Racers found not wearing their required gear will be disqualified.
- Teams may paddle in canoes only, and may not paddle with more than 2 people in a canoe. Kayak paddles may be used in canoes.
- While teams will be given the option of attempting as many or as little of the point-value checkpoints as they choose, the core framework of the race will be structured by a series of mandatory checkpoints, which must be completed in the order they are assigned.
- Each team or solo racer must check in at each of the mandatory checkpoints. Failure to do so will result in an automatic “NOR” ranking (not officially ranked).
- Each team or solo racer is solely responsible for ensuring that they have been checked through by checkpoint staff. Incomplete entries at any of the mandatory checkpoints will result in an automatic “NOR” ranking.
- For safety and/or logistics reasons, certain areas of the racecourse will be declared “out-of-bounds”. Any team or solo racer found in these areas will be immediately disqualified.
- Each team must have a team name included with their registration. STORM Racing reserves the right to refuse entry to any team that does not provide a team name.
- Registration forms submitted without the requested racer information completed in full will not be processed.
- Registrations are considered incomplete until full payment is received.
- Members of a team may be changed, but only if notification is given prior to Race Day.
- All racers must sign a race waiver on Race Day. Any participants who are under 18 years of age must have a parent or guardian present when signing these waivers.
- Racers under 16 years of age must be on a team that includes at least one adult.
- A confirmation of each team registration will be sent via email. Be sure to contact us if you have not received confirmation within 10 days of submitting your registration form.
