Sean Roper, Race Director Sean Roper
Race Director

As his friends and family will attest, Sean has been obsessed with the sport of adventure racing since he first volunteered at an event back in 1998. After the highly successful launch of his first race Storm the North Shore in North Vancouver, Sean brought Storm Racing back with him to Ontario in 2002, and has since grown it into Canada's largest adventure race series. He is a career "event guy," with over 10 years of experience behind the scenes at adventure racing, running and cycling events ranging in size from 200 to 12,000 participants. An accomplished adventure racer and ultra-runner himself, you can usually find Sean at various events throughout the province, or across the country and beyond.

A few of the many great people behind Storm the Trent:

Mark & Heather Arnold
Hark Events

Long-time friends and colleagues Mark and Heather Arnold are among the country's most experienced adventure racers and race managers, and have for many years played a major role in our Event Day operations. Mark and Heather are also the original founders of the Emergency Services Adventure Race (ESAR), co-founders of the RockstAR Adventure Race, and are the brilliant minds behind the halloween-themed Trek or Treat night trail running event.

Mike Van Den Bosch

Veteran adventure racer Mike Van Den Bosch has taken part in races dating back to the sport's earliest beginnings in Canada, and to this day remains one of the most passionate supporters of AR around. In addition to playing a vital role in Race Day production, Mike is one of the most familar faces you'll see on the racecourse, where he captures each event so perfectly through his photos.

Vinson Lee

Vin is another long-time adventure racing enthusiast, having competing and supported at expedition-length events such as New Zealand's Southern Traverse, and the Eco-Challenge Canadian Championships. Well-known for his thorough and well-planned racecourse designs, Vin's wealth of experience and meticulous attention to course details are what make him such a huge asset to any event he is a part of.

Patty Van Liefland

Resourceful, quick-thinking, and always wearing a smile, Patty is the "go-to" when stuff needs to get done. She has played a lead role in nearly every Storm the Trent, Storm the 'Scarpment, ESAR, and RockstAR event since 2008, and always keeps things lively with her boundless spirit. An accomplished trail racer in her own right, Patty ensures that the participant's perspective is kept front of mind at every race.

Friends, supporters, and generally awesome people...

No Storm Racing event would be possible without the support of a fantastic group of individuals who make the race experience all that it is through their tireless dedication and unwavering enthusiasm. In addition to our incredible Race Day volunteers, we are forever indebted to regular team members Heather Brown, Kathie Zeman, Ursula Tracz, Petra U, Paula Zondag, and of course - Fran & Dave Campbell, Marnie Roper, and Mark Roper.
